19th Century Morris & Co Sussex Chair LightingA fine 19th century Morris & Co Sussex chair, c. 1870. Designed by Ford William Maddox for William Morris. Charming areas of wear to the arm rest from years of use. There is evidence of repair and restoration in areas. The rush seat is later and in excellent order. The silver lid boasts stunning foliate detail with a bird and a depiction of the 'green man'

There is a small area of paint loss to one ear and some very small scratches in places but generally the work displays very well

Telescope:

The stem has been historically re-soldered to the base and the leather underside of the base is fraying to the extremities

but overall the work displays well

The vase is in an excellent condition

Payne moved to Derby in 1869 and was recorded as living at several places in the county of Derbyshire in the 1880s including Duffield and Barrow Upon Trent
