It’s both broken and unyielding

echoing the movement of butterflies without depicting a single one

Horses push through wind and weather with a quiet sense of urgency

capturing not a single street or landmark

Sharp branches and shifting ice give the scene its energy

Bold sweeps of ochre and white echo the sculpting force of water

and the deep blues of worn fabric

and quiet thought

A tangled wall of branches and logs holds back the current

There’s a poetry in the ordinary

blurring the line between objectification and self-possession

and ice-white
